Cruiser Section

In this section and sub-sections you will find all cruiser related information such as; race instructions and results, racing calendar, handicapping, rallies and Cruiser captain Newsletters.

Hardway Sailing Club has a very active Cruiser racing fleet featuring several series of club races throughout the year, and we successfully compete in the Inter-Club series with other harbour clubs, having won the trophy for several consecutive years.

Inter-Club races are held in the harbour and in the Solent, over short and long courses, usually with a social gathering at the venue afterwards. We also arrange several cruising rallies at Cowes, Bembridge, Lymington, Yarmouth and Island Harbour on the Medina.

Interested in racing?

There are no race fees to pay, as the racing is run by members who volunteer their time.

We use the RYA YTC Handicap system, and a boat rating is easy to obtain from the RYA details below.

You will need to complete and submit a Race Entry and Risk Statement form (see below) BEFORE competing, and ideally, get a handicap rating at the same time.

Our experience of using the YTC system has been, overall, positive. Most of the current cruisers racing are competitive with the new handicaps at their experience level, with some minor local adjustments being logical for those who are less experienced or setup for racing. For 2025 we propose staying with the YTC handicap system for the base handicaps, and running through Sailwave for handicap adjustments for all the Harbour and Solent series. We are looking for feedback from the membership via email to Raceofficer@hardwaysailingclub.co.uk.

Hardway has registered our club on the RYA YTC system, currently most boats racing have registered with the RYA YTC System to get a handicap this is a free service, if you are considering racing in 2024 we encourage you to apply for a handicap also, details are below for you to follow.
