Sailing Committee Minutes

28th  October  2024 / 1900 hrs / ClubHouse

Attendees

Matters Arising 

  1. Rallies have been booked to  Marchwood, Cowes & Bembridge dates will be available soon.    
  2. 80th Anniversary Memorabilia is being sought for next year.
  3. Possibility of inviting other harbour clubs to the celebrations
  4. Proposal to hold 2025 junior week Sat 9th thru Wed 13th Aug due to tides.
  5. Rough plan to retain a modified Wally Support boat with centre console ,  Purchase of two new Safety Boats along with floating Pontoon to be raised with the Management Committee (approx costing £ 13,000 ) .     
  6. A Copy of a RYA approved Dinghy risk assessment form was supplied by the Training Officer who along with the Dinghy Captain fine tune it  to suit the club requirements . Once this has happened the club web site will be updated.         
  7. A Pile needs to be removed from the compound prior to Lift out. The Pile is required to replace a damaged one on the Grid.

Reports     

  • Cruiser Captain
  1. Currently awaiting confirmation of a Rally to Lymington possible dates Aug 15/16th 2025

With RNLI plate to Lymington and Half White on the return.

  • Dinghy Captain
  1. The club has been offered  a complete Topper dinghy free of charge, this has been accepted by the Sailing Committee and now requires Management approval.
  2. Planning for 4 possible weekend training sessions is underway.
  3. After the Winter lift in, space is required for permanent space for Two Pecos.
  4. An Audit of the Club Dinghies & Equipment to be carried out prior to winter lay-up.
  •  Race Officer
  1. Final attempt to carry out Pursuit Race will be held on Sunday the 3rd Nov.
  2. Possible race program for both Dinghys and Cruisers on Boxing day subject to interest.
  • Support Boat Officer
  1. The Wheel bearings and Jockey wheel have been  replaced on the Wally trailer.
  2. Batteries for both Support boats have been removed for winter storage.
  3. The servicing of both support boat gearboxes will be carried out this week.
  • Mooring Officer
  1. Online renewal of mooring has gone well with only 18 invoices still outstanding and 6 people who are yet to log on to the website.
  2. It is Estimated Mooring will raise approx £30,500 this year.
  3. KHM require 14 moorings to be moved by 4th November to allow dredging of the main channel. Owners have been notified to move onto the pontoon till further notice.
  • Pontoon Officer
  1. SCM working well
  2. Possible rule change may be required with regards to winter rates as there has been interest in owners requesting extending their stay on the pontoon  if space permits. 
  3. Pontoon invoices that have not been paid within the 30 day limit will be reminded every 7 days until it is settled.
  4. People are not turning up to do their Pontoon duties which causes problems, Needs more enforcement.
  • Storage Officer
  1. Suggest extra Kayak racking to be erected  alongside rack K to increase capacity.
  2. Storage Officer is receiving a large amount of SPAM MAIL, No other members report the problem.
  3. A Sailing Dinghy has been noted in the Kayak rack, This is taking up valuable storage places.
  4. There has been a problem of people putting splitters into shore power cables without current users permission and not paying. It was pointed out that the use of power cable splitters in Marinas is prohibited on safety grounds . ( possible overloading of cables).
  5. Members are reminded to retrieve any remaining credit on to their cards before departure.
  • Training Office
  1. It is hoped that a RYA First Aid course will be carried out in the winter months with the aid of an outside instructor. Approx cost of £60 per student.
  •  RYA Principal

          1, Safeguarding policy is to be found on the club website under GDPR policy and is up to date.

Sailing Club Manager 

There are still problems with people paying fees using BACs payments. This is not compatible with the SCM system, It is proposed to erect notices explaining the required payment method and giving a QR code to assist in online payments.

It is suggested that a service charge should be added to overdue invoices to encourage prompt payments.

Other Business

  1. Red race triangle on the pontoon needs repainting.
  2. The 30  minute waiting  limit statement on the hammerhead needs repainting .
  3. A 30 minute waiting limit notice has been  manufactured for the Hammerhead.
